The Patrick Mint
Welcome to the Patrick Mint home page. While constructing this home page I was constantly encouraged by my computer consultant to distinguish it by giving it content and making it interesting to explore. I hope that aim was achieved and sincerely encourage you to not only spend some time here but return occasionally to see what else is new. This home page was created to really do several things. First it is a commercial vehicle oriented in large part to support the latest expansion of The Patrick Mint back into the minting business after a 20 year hiatus. Along those same lines this home page was given the job of providing a platform for offering many items we have for sale which I really can’t carry to coin shows and focus on selling as much as I would like to. Second, it was a strategic movement toward making The Mint a net based business because of the unique ability of the Internet to provide a place where a lot of information can be made available. Lastly I determined that this home page should reflect the scope of my interest in the numismatics generally and be a place where I can share that interest with others.
The great Eva Clain-Stefanelli, as curator of the National Coin Collection at the Smithsonian Institution, once said, “Collect what you enjoy, what gives you pleasure. Regardless if you lose money or gain money, if you enjoy something, you have already gotten back half to three-quarters of the money you paid for it. Why would you go on an excursion? What do you get back from it? Only the pleasure to have made the trip.” I believe this is the best frame of mind for anyone pursuing coins and really have only one other point to make. It is my firm belief that everyone who takes up numismatics as a collectible should, regardless of his or her wealth, in conjunction with a main interest, pursue something else as well which is inexpensive. Too often I’ve seen collectors whose taste makes the acquisition of even one coin a month a financial burden. An inexpensive series pursued at the same time provides and outlet for acquisition and interaction and over time may bring as much or more enjoyment as those fields which are more expensive. At any rate enjoy your pursuit numismatics, in my opinion the greatest hobby in the world
